Seal hunt closing in the Gulf of St. Lawrence

DFO advises that the hunt for Harp seals in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Sealing Areas 10 to 16 will close for commercial and personal use sealers who reside in Sealing Areas 8 to 12 (Western Newfoundland - Strait of Bell Isle) at 1200 hours, noon today, Thursday, April 6, 2006

Sealers are also advised that, that portion of Sealing Area 5 lying between Latitude 51 degrees 32' 52" North and 51 degrees 42' North and Lontitude 55 degrees 18' West will close to sealers who reside in Area 12 using vessels less than 35 feet at 1200 hours, noon today, Thursday, April 6, 2006

The hunt for Hood seals in Area 12 will close to Gulf sealers at 1200 hours, noon today, Thursday, April 6, 2006.

The hunt is closed until DFO completes a count of catches.  If a decision is made to reopen the hunt it will not be reopened before 1200 hours, noon tomorrow, Friday, April 7, 2006.
