| | In consultation with the Canadian Coast Guard, DFO advises that due to safety concerns arising from current ice conditions and severe weather, including high winds, forecast for the FRONT, the re-opening of the seal fishery on the FRONT is further postponed until 6:00 a.m. Newfoundland Daylight Saving Time, Friday, April 15, 2005. The harp seal fishery in sealing areas 4 - 7 and area 12 will re-open for sealers residing in sealing areas 4 - 8 who are operating from vessels less than 65 feet. The seal fishery will close at 7:30 p.m. Newfoundland Daylight Saving Time, Friday, April 15, 2005, to all sealers residing in Sealing areas 5 - 8, operating from vessels between 35' - 64'11", and to any sealer operating from any vessel less than 35' that has a sealer from a homeport in sealing area 6 onboard. The fishery will then remain closed to both these fleets until DFO has determined the catch levels. Sealers are encouraged to provide their daily catch report, as described in license conditions as soon as that information is available. A limited re-opening may follow on Saturday, April 16, 2005, if there is a sufficient number of seals remaining in the allocations for these fleet sectors. This entry has been revised once. Last revision on Wednesday, April 13th 2005 at 4:17pm NDT. |
